Born in Atlanta, Ga., Drew Alexander Forde is a senior at McIntosh High School and has been playing the viola for six years. Drew has been selected to perform with the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra four times and sat at the first stand twice. Through the help of a friend, he was given the opportunity to study with an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra violinist in 2006. Shortly thereafter, Drew joined the Orchestra's prestigious Talent Development Program. Since the first day of his ninth grade year, he has been the principal violist at McIntosh High School. Beginning in the summer of his junior year, Drew studied with Dr. Marilyn Seelman, one of the premier viola teachers in the Southeast. Drew is proud to currently study under Mr. Paul Murphy, Associate Principal Violist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Since joining the Talent Development Program, Drew has performed with the Phoenix Quartet for personalities akin to Arthur Blank and this past summer he was featured on CNN's "Black In America 2." On Labor Day, Drew was one of four violists nationwide to be selected to participate in Robert McDuffie and Friend's Labor Day Festival for Strings at Mercer University. Drew graduates from McIntosh High School with honors at the end of the month and will be a panelist for the upcoming League of American Orchestras Conference in Atlanta this summer. He also has been selected as a featured soloist for a performance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the baton of Robert Spano. Next fall, Drew begins his studies at the McDuffie Center for Strings and Mercer University on full scholarship.
