Yvonne Caruthers

Yvonne Caruthers (ESM '74) has been a cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC since 1978. She's been actively involved with the orchestra's Education Department since the early '90s, developing multi-media programs for middle school students that pair music with a traditional school subject: Math and Music, History and Music, Science and Music, Language and Music. These programs have been performed at the Kennedy Center and in states across the US, as well as being broadcast over satellite TV networks. Yvonne also designs programs for the Smithsonian's education branch, lecturing regularly on musical topics such as "Pivotal Moments in Classical Music" or "Beethoven's String Quartets." She performs regularly in chamber music performances and recitals, and maintains a private studio.
