Default what's your dress code?

What's your orchestra's dress code? Too restrictive? Not restrictive enough? What do you wish was the dress code? Who enforces it (or doesn't) in your organization?

Does it bug you to wear white tie and tails when the conductor or soloist shows up in a suit, or some sort of loose (and presumably comfortable) shirt?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has an opinion about dress codes, and I'll try to summarize in an article for Polyphonic.

Default re: whats your dress code?

My group has two...one being the traditional concert black (tuxes) and the other being the "contemporary" dress, being all black.

Can you be more specific, please? Does "all black" mean the men wear black shirts with their suits, or does it mean they wear black shirts with no jackets? Does everyone dress more casually (types of fabrics, etc) when it's "all black"?

Does what you wear make you feel differently when you're playing?
