I think it would be great fun to post some photos of what musician lounges look like around the country. Our lounge (National Symphony Orchestra) is not very glamorous at all. It's basement space and looks like it. When we travel around the country we all enjoy seeing what other orchestras have for a lounge. In this country, the Chicago Symphony has an amazing lounge area!!! Overseas, it's common to even find food service in the backstage area.
What does your lounge look like? What would make it better?

I don't play in a professional orchestra *yet* but the music lounge in the music building at my school is pretty cozy...vending machines, a table, and a lot of couches that are falling apart.
It's a lovely place to take a nap.

Our theatre was originally built for Vaudeville shows. It's a gorgeous old heritage building with red carpet and chandeliers in the concert hall. It has a women's room lounge and men's room lounge, with smaller dressing rooms scattered through the building for woodwinds, etc. The rooms are pretty spartan, though recently we were given (oh, happy day!) water coolers with hot and cold fresh water taps and mugs with our names on them. The furniture is pretty old, but functional. We have lots of mirrors with good lighting. No showers, unfortunately! There are full-length lockers for all the full-time musicians and a few for extras as well. The only problem with this set-up is that the separation of the rooms makes it difficult to socialize and get to know your colleagues when you're waiting to play.

Our lounge is a long, narrow carpeted room with floor to ceiling windows looking onto a plaza along its length. There are couches, tables and chairs, a small book-sharing library, a fridge, a microwave, and old TSO pictures on the wall.
